How art gets generated.
Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? It’s about high time you do! It’s that time of year to think about how to better yourself in the coming year, and how you can make a more positive impact on the world around you.
One of the best ways to do this is, naturally, to support your local artists! Local artists keep the soul in the economy, the idealism in the idea of a career path, and are both the hope and the proof that if you put your mind to it, you have the ability to create your dreams.
Independent artists are also the epitome of hard work and perseverance. No one works harder than the independent artist. They are indeed a one-man (or one-band) show, creating, honing, and perfecting their craft while marketing, promoting, selling their works; most often, all while holding down a day job. And for what? It’s a fire in the soul that drives them to get to the rehearsal space or studio night after night, dedicating hours upon hours to bring the songs and visions in their heads to a reality in this world; and preparing endlessly for shows that may or may not have any kind of tangible return at all. Yet they carry on because it’s in their bones. They just have to.
So this year, please make an effort to see more local bands, to visit more local art openings, and to buy from local boutiques who carry independent designers. If you like their work, show your support by buying a CD, a shirt, a print, or a small work of art. You’ll bring more color, inspiration, and soul into your life, and you’ll also enable these artists to continue creating. And you may even find yourself to picking up a brush, instrument, or needle and thread yourself to see what inspiration you yourself can bring into the world.
