Small Music Venues ARE Cultural Institutions

Yes, yes, and all yes.  There are nonprofit art galleries, nonprofit theaters, but nonprofit music venues?  Do we have the same issue at England, and is the American music system increasingly being set up to – as this article so eloquently puts it – look for the next big karaoke star?  As our culture shifts away from valuing raw, real soul in music, and towards music’s athleticism, we are slowing choking away the one place where the magic of live music is still accessible to anyone who’s up for paying $10 to listen to a few local bands.

Ed Vaizey has a great point, and something that small music venues on this side of the pond should consider
